Basement Design & Layout
We start by planning how to best utilize your basement’s square footage. This can include adding partition walls to create separate rooms (bedroom, bathroom, storage), or designing an open-concept layout for one large multifunctional space. We also consider egress requirements – if you plan to have a bedroom, we’ll add an egress window or exterior door per code for safety.
Framing, Drywall & Insulation
Next, we frame the walls and ceilings (if needed) and install insulation to make the space comfortable year-round. We use moisture-resistant materials and proper vapor barriers to prevent dampness. After running electrical and any plumbing lines (for bathrooms or wet bars), we hang drywall and prepare the walls for finishing.
Flooring Solutions
We recommend and install basement-appropriate flooring options. Popular choices are vinyl plank flooring or tile that can handle potential humidity, or engineered hardwood/carpet with subfloor systems for warmth. We ensure the floor is leveled and dry before installation.
Basement Bathrooms & Wet Bars
Want a bathroom or a second kitchen/bar area in the basement? We handle that too. We can rough-in plumbing for a new full bathroom or half-bath, and finish it with a beautiful modern style consistent with the rest of your home. Wet bars or small kitchenettes can also be added for entertaining spaces or in-law suites.
Lighting & Ceiling Finishes
Basements benefit from good lighting. We install ample overhead lighting (typically recessed lights for a clean look and good illumination) and can also add features like dimmers or accent lights. For ceilings, we can do drywall for a typical finish, or drop-ceilings that allow easy access to pipes/electrical (great for utility basements) – whatever suits your needs and budget.

Finishing a basement with WM Home Improvement is a streamlined process. We coordinate all aspects including any required permits and inspections. Key steps include:

We inspect the basement for any prerequisites – e.g., check for water entry issues, adequate structural support, and the existing mechanical setup. If needed, we’ll recommend waterproofing measures (sump pump, exterior drainage) to do before or during the remodel to protect your investment.

Design Planning
We work with you on a layout that meets your goals. We’ll discuss room purposes (bedroom, bath, rec room, etc.), placement of walls, and any special features. At this stage, you choose finishes like flooring, paint colors, lighting styles, and other design elements so we can include them in the plan.

Construction
Our team builds out the design – framing walls, installing insulation, completing electrical wiring (outlets, lighting, possibly baseboard heating or HVAC vents extension), and adding drywall. If a bathroom is included, we’ll do the plumbing rough-in and fixture installs. We handle all carpentry and coordination of licensed plumbers/electricians as required, adhering strictly to building codes.

Finishing Touches
We paint the walls with your chosen colors, install trim and baseboards for a polished look, lay down the flooring, and install any cabinetry or special components (like a bar or entertainment center). We then do a thorough cleanup.

Final Inspection & Walkthrough
We facilitate the final inspection (for permits) to ensure everything is up to code. Finally, we walk through the finished basement with you, ensuring every detail meets your approval.
